Warranty Engineer
Your Contribution:
As a Warranty Engineer you will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the warranty process, including claim review, customer communication, returned-part evaluation, failure analysis, root cause investigation, and reporting. This role works closely with customers and cross-functional teams to resolve warranty concerns, drive corrective actions, and improve product quality. The position requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills to effectively manage warranty claims, document findings, maintain accurate records, and support customer and internal reporting requirements. This is a hybrid position located in Farmington Hills, MI.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer warranty concerns. Perform data analysis on warranty claims, including reviewing warranty claims for validity, dispute unsupported claims, ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements and warranty agreements, defend against No Trouble Found (NTF) claims, lead Technical Factor negotiations. Manage competing priorities and meet customer timing requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of warranty special topics, claims, investigations, corrective actions, and resolutions. Utilize SAP for warranty-related data entry, sales order creation, and claim tracking.
- Track warranty spend by customer or product using PowerBI. Monitor spend against accrual targets and escalating when necessary.
- Track warranty performance metrics and predict future warranty exposure using Weibull analysis. Monitor for emerging risks, anomalies, cost avoidance opportunities, and improvement initiatives through data analysis with or without the use of AI.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, customer presentations, executive summaries, status updates, and other documentation supporting warranty processes. Communicate technical findings, recommendations, risks, issue status, and countermeasures to internal stakeholders and customer representatives.
- Drive root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies, including 8D and 5-Why analysis. Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Customer Service, and other teams to support warranty objectives, drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing warranty exposure, improving product quality, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
Your Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field, plus 1+ year of relevant experience; or an Associate degree with 5+ years of relevant experience; or 10+ years of related work experience.
- Experience with automotive OEM warranty systems (e.g., GM, Ford, Stellantis, Mercedes-Benz, PACCAR, BMW, Nissan, Toyota, Honda).
- Proficiency in Power BI, Microsoft Excel, Power Query, and data analysis tools; experience with macros is preferred.
- Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and customer-specific automotive quality requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
