Warranty Reliability Engineer
Your Contribution:
The Warranty Reliability Engineer is responsible for leading data analysis for customer issue resolution, field failure investigations, warranty reduction initiatives, and product reliability improvements within a global automotive supplier environment. This person will be responsible for updating and presenting the region’s monthly warranty trend report. The warranty reliability engineer will work as part of a team to evaluate PDP validation testing results to identify areas for further study. This person will serve as one of the organization's key technical resources for advanced problem solving, customer quality, warranty analytics, and reliability improvement. This role requires an experienced, self-directed professional who can operate independently, provide technical leadership across functions, mentor developing engineers, and build sustainable problem-solving capabilities throughout the organization. The ideal candidate brings automotive experience, experience working with manufacturing plants and suppliers to resolve quality issues, along with exceptional customer-facing skills. This person must have a passion for sharing knowledge with team members and providing in-team training, as relevant to driving lasting quality improvements. This is a hybrid position located in Farmington Hills, MI.
- Provide key leadership on investigations of complex customer concerns, warranty claims, and field failures to identify root causes and implement robust corrective actions. This includes working with manufacturing plants, suppliers, customers, and internal engineering and quality teams.
- Generate and interpret monthly Field Report summaries (spend by product/commodity/plant). This includes highlighting opportunities, risks and concerns. Own follow-up activities for key action items through completion or effective hand-off.
- Identify quality and reliability risks using PDP validation testing results while working closely with product engineering, manufacturing, and quality team members.
- Facilitate advanced problem-solving activities utilizing methodologies such as 8D, Shainin Red X, Six Sigma, Fault Tree Analysis, and 5 Why and similar. Provide mentorship and support to cross-functional team members with the structured problem-solving methodologies, statistical analysis and quality improvement methodologies.
- Represent the company in customer meetings, technical reviews, audits, and negotiations with OEMs, Tier 1 customers, suppliers, and executive leadership. Present and defend data-driven conclusions, reliability analyses, and life and failure prediction models, including Weibull analysis.
- Analyze quality, warranty, and reliability data to identify systemic risks, reduce customer dissatisfaction, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Serve as a technical resource for team members and management regarding data-driven decisions, reliability assessments, and warranty performance trends.

Your Experience & Qualifications:
- 15+ years of hands-on experience within the automotive supplier industry in customer quality, reliability, warranty, manufacturing quality, or product engineering roles.
- Strong knowledge of Six Sigma, statistical analysis, reliability engineering, warranty analytics, and advanced reactive problem-solving methodologies. Six Sigma Green Belt certification required; Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification strongly preferred with demonstrated leadership of complex improvement projects. Demonstrated ability to quickly identify quality gaps and effectively transfer technical knowledge through mentoring and coaching. Demonstrated success leading technical discussion and providing data to support customer negotiations.
- Proven ability to use data analysis from warranty and validation to help predict quality issues, make recommendations and escalate findings.
- Proficiency in Power BI, Microsoft Excel, Power Query, and data analysis tools; experience with macros is preferred.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and customer organizations. Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze technical and warranty data to support decision-making and continuous improvement. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
