Apprentice Industrial Millwright

An industrial Millwright apprentice will assist the Maintenance Department (Millwrights) in their daily duties to ensure the continued and efficient operation of all departments and systems throughout the facility. The position will be a formal apprenticeship and as such will be required to register with the apprentice program and enroll and complete all required coursework and requirements of the program.

An industrial millwright apprentice is expected to learn how to perform the duties independently of their instructor including.

  • Identifying and repairing problematic parts of a machine by running tests, making temporary repairs, or installing new parts.
  • Troubleshoot to solve machine issues.
  • Overseeing preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, removing worn out pieces and lubricating mechanical parts.
  • Recording and documentation in SAP.
  • Ability to be a team player due to constant interactions with similar employees and stakeholders such as Engineers, Plant Managers, Technicians, Part Vendors, Production Operators, amongst others.
  • Assembling and installing machines then testing them to make sure they are working correctly.
  • Managing the layout and placement of equipment and machinery in factory settings to ensure minimum downtime.
  • Dismantling older machines and replacing them with new ones.
  • Using machinery or equipment, such as forklifts, to move mechanical parts.
  • Mechanical aptitude in dealing with wrenches, hammers, forklifts, and other similar tools.
  • Strick adherence and compliance to MAHLE safety rules up to and include MOL requirements and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical technical skills to allow them to effectively read and understand documents such as specifications, machine manuals, and blueprints.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12 Education or its equivalent
  • Applicants must be eighteen (18) years of age or over
  • Ability to work 3 shift rotation.
  • Each apprentice shall enroll and attend classes as required by the applicable trade regulation.

Additional Considerations

 

All applicants for the Industrial Millwright Apprentice posting will be required to write and successfully pass testing to continue to proceed in the recruitment process. Applicant will first be required to write Level 1 Test and those who successfully achieve a minimum of 70% on the test will continue to proceed in the recruitment process and be required to write the 2nd Level Test.  Level 2 includes an exam with 138 multiple chose questions and 1-hour practical exam. Exams are confidentiality administered and evaluated by St. Clair College. 

 

All Applicants will be required to complete the necessary testing which is available daily at 4pm Monday to Friday at St. Clair College, Windsor Campus.

Applicants are required to attend the First Level Testing during the Week of November 20 – 24. 

Applicants who successfully achieve a minimum of 70% on the First Level Test will be eligible to continue and will be required to write Second Level Test the week of December 4-8.

 

 Applicants will be required to attend the test before or after their shift or request the applicable time off. The test is 3 hours in length.

 

**Please be advised due to the complexity of this position additional time will be required to award and identify the successful employee of the posting. Therefore, this will fall outside of the criteria set out in 13:06 of the CBA.

 

The first five hundred (500) hours of employment for an apprentice shall be a probationary period and during this period the apprenticeship agreement with an apprentice may be cancelled with the Company.

Successful applicants have an obligation to meet the school requirements set out by the Ministry of Training.  

Failure to comply will result in the Company revoking their sponsor apprenticeship agreement with the apprentice. In this case the apprentice will be removed from the classification.
