SUMMARY:

The HSE Labour Relations Advisor drives alignment of established programs and new initiatives, ensuring compliance with legislative and regulatory standards, while fostering improvements to the HSE LR culture at the Tilbury manufacturing plant.  The role established, maintains, and fosters a solid working relationship with union and H&S representatives, colleagues, and clients to promote a cooperative and effective HSE LR climate.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage labour relations in alignment with organizational Labour strategies / plans and division manufacturing goals.
  • Represent Management in labour relations, including the negotiation, interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements,
  • Act as management representative in contact with Union officials on all matters pertaining to disciplinary action, promotions, demotions, transfers, separations, layoffs and wage . salary adjustments.
  • Represent management in the negotiation and settlement of grievances under established grievance procedure.
  • Manage the application of regulations and statutes, including the Labour Act, Workers Compensation and Employment Standards.
  • Prepare briefs for arbitration and labour litigation cases.
  • In conjunction with manufacturing management, administer work rules including employee discipline, ensuring fairness and consistency in application.
  • Liaise with Union officials on labour issues.
  • Control, coordination and reporting of employee lost time and absenteeism.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports on labour activities.
  • Assemble and analyze information on trends in labour relations.
  • Orientation of new employees and the conduction of exit interviews related to unionized employees.

 

EHS

  • Maintain, coordinate and continually improve the Environmental Health and Safety Program.
  • ISO 14001 / OHSAS 18001 planning, procedures work instructions and audits.
  • Perform environment and waste mgt. control in accordance with ISO 14001 / OHSAS 18001 procedures and work instructions including identification and reduction of environmental waste and waste control.
  • Plan and implement actions necessary to protect, maintain and improve environmental standards.
  • Identify the training needs of all employees in cooperation with HR Department with respect to legislation and the company’s requirements.
  • Support emergency plans. Emergency response team, join health & safety committee and manufacturing team.
  • Present EHS reports at MS meetings or other meetings as required.
  • Interface with various levels of management, engineering, HR, shop floor and contractors.
  • Investigate and provide corrective and preventative action regarding health and safety incidents.
  • Conduct safety signoffs on all new and reworked mfg. equipment.
  • Conduct presentations and communication sessions regarding environmental health and safety program and information as required.
  • Interface with contracts regarding EHS related programs and processes.
  • Report to mgt. (Plant & HR Manager) regarding health and safety performance or any risks or concerns.
  • Provide and submit reports to meet legislative, corporate and company requirements.

 

EHS ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge in their duties and responsibilities in accordance with health and safety legislation in Ontario.
  • Knowledgeable in the companies duties and responsibility in accordance with environmental legislation in Ontario and Canada.
  • Working knowledge of IATF16949, ISO14001, and ISO45001.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University graduate with degree in Business Administration / Labour Studies, Health & Safety, Engineering or related college diploma.
  • Five or more years’ experience in a HSE LR position (no less than 3)
  • Solid experience with Compliance – Policy – Procedures
  • Union environment experience highly preferred
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes – plastics preferred and experience in a plant / manufactory environment
  • Ergonomics studies or background an asset.
  • ISO – OHSAS
  • Create safety culture – be on the floor and interact with employees
