Our products are used around the globe in two-wheeled vehicles, passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and large engines.

Your contribution:

  • To support project leaders by performing experimental coating trials and the production of prototype samples including the preparation of coating materials and surface modification processes
  • To undertake metallurgical sample preparation and analysis work (including use of optical microscopy, FTIR, rheology, and other high-end analytical techniques) to support development activities and material quality checks
  • Quality and dimensional evaluation of components including photography and metrology measurements
  • Writing of technical reports relating to analysis requests including development projects and damage of rig & engine tested bearings
  • To support materials development, customer projects and benchmarking on both a local and global level
  • To provide support to the manufacturing sites in terms of materials validation, production & quality related issues as and when required
  • To generate and collate the necessary data as required for analysis and coating requests and assist with the creation of product standards
  • Materials performance testing, eg. cavitation testing
  • Departmental housekeeping & maintenance duties including receiving and guiding contractors, equipment fault finding and calibration and stock control of raw materials and consumables 
  • To participate in continuous improvement projects
  • Adherence to quality systems, and following of quality documentation
  • To support other members of the metallurgical lab and product testing and flexible support to other departments where required
  • Any other reasonable duties within materials technology and laboratory as defined by the Head of Innovation

Your experience and qualifications:

  • A HNC, HND, CertHE, degree or equivalent in a materials, science or engineering related subject is desirable
  • Experience of working in a materials analysis laboratory (essential)
  • Knowledge of metallurgical sample preparation methods and instrumental analytical techniques (essential)
  • Experience of following laboratory procedures and quality documentation (essential)
  • Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload (essential)
  • Experience in surface coating, paint spray or surface modification processes (desirable)
  • Experience with basic metrology measuring equipment (desirable)
  • Experience with maintenance and setting of paint spray/coating equipment (desirable)
  • Good fault finding and troubleshooting skills, mechanical and electrical systems (desirable)
  • Experience in product research & development (desirable)
