Engineering Intern - Heavy Duty Diesel Operations

SUMMARY

Work with Engineers and department personnel to learn Heavy-Duty Diesel piston manufacturing and support processes and perform associated / assigned duties.  May utilize methods involved in manufacturing to perform engineering, maintenance, set-up, production, clerical or other duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions as needed to learn processes and developments in the manufacturing of MAHLE products.
  • May meet with outside vendors and/or represent MAHLE to internal and external customers / companies.
  • Works closely with line personnel to ensure newly developed parts and tooling are correctly installed and functioning properly.
  • Develop cost analysis and/or or proposals for implementation of new processes or improvements to existing processes.
  • Selects or designs parts and tooling to meet customer specifications and expectations.
  • Confers with established personnel to implement standard operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.
  • Creates work or gauging instructions designed to inform workers of standardized or proper methods for performing given tasks.
  • Prepares charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate material such as costs, workflow, routing, layout, material handling, machine utilization, etc.
  • Observes and records workers operating equipment or performing tasks to determine time involved and fatigue rate (i.e., time study).
  • Recommends revision of methods of operation or material handling, alterations in equipment layout, or other changes to increase production or improve standards.
  • Develops/Optimizes process flow to increase efficiency of operation.
  • Prepares reports concerning departmental activities as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word applications software is necessary for this position holder.
  • Auto Cad drafting knowledge preferred.
  • May operate machine tools / produce product.
  • Performs other assignments as instructed by Department Management

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and currently enrolled in college, pursuing a technical degree.
