SUMMARY

As the Head of the CRRN Materials & Chemistry Lab in Lockport you will lead a team of materials and chemistry experts to perform laboratory testing in alignment with MAHLE standards, ensuring the delivery of accurate, comprehensive reports to internal and external customers. Coordinate closely with MAHLE’s global CRR organization to maintain and implement current and emerging testing standards, while managing laboratory operations within defined budgets and ensuring proper project charging. This role will also develop and leverage external laboratory partnerships to off‑load work when internal resources or equipment are limited and serve as the primary liaison with BU R&D teams to prioritize and balance the laboratory’s workload effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of Material and Chemist engineers and technicians.  Provide inspiring leadership, support and guidance. Balance the workload.
  • Develop and meet staff budgets for responsible area, including maintaining head count. 
  • Lead laboratory activities supporting all development projects.
  • Lead laboratory activities supporting the development and maintenance of global material and testing specifications.
  • Actively involved in new material developments that are running globally for application into products.
  • Facilitate and lead teams to fully utilize equipment.
  • Support healthy and productive environment within the team, encouraging new ideas and promoting professional growth among team members. Apply Mahle leadership principles to create cooperative work environment and to keep talents.
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal customers like product and process development, validation teams and plant staff. Ensure alignment with all project teams.
  • Ensure laboratory teams work in unison with the central global materials standards, testing procedures and equipment standards. Provide feedback for continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Materials and or Chemistry
  • 5 years of prior leadership experience with direct reports
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working in an R&D or laboratory environment
  • Preferred science knowledge of materials
  • Knowledge and experience in laboratory methods and HSE regulations
  • Preferred experience in leading employees applying metallographic and chemical investigation methods e.g. failure analysis
  • Required experience in training technicians in lab methods
  • Advanced capabilities in technical report writing and report editing
  • Complete understanding of MAHLE Team Leadership role
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks smoothly with a high level of accountability, and a substantial level of stress to meet expectations
  • Ability to manage, direct, guide & coach a team towards success

 

  Salary: 130-150K
