SUMMARY

The Facilities Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain plant and facility equipment according to established procedures and processes, and all applicable Health & Safety standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain physical plant and facility equipment such as chilled water system, low pressure boiler, compressed air systems and HVAC building systems.

  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of plant and facilities equipment and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of equipment during machine service.

  • Manage and perform facility equipment improvement projects. Work with outside contractors to ensure operational effectiveness.

  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of process and building systems.

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and blueprints to perform required maintenance and service.

  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.

  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.

  • Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance, electrical repairs, carpentry functions and other building maintenance tasks such as painting and lighting maintenance.

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.

  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.

  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual inspections as required on plant and facilities systems and safeguards.

  • Shipping of scrap and waste.

  • Coordinate services of outside contractors.

  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • AA Degree in mechanical, electrical, HVAC or industrial maintenance or 10 years’ experience.

  • Pumps, boilers, electric motors and air compressors.

  • Building systems and controls and construction concepts.

  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize tasks in a self-directed work environment and maintain high levels of productivity without direct supervision.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Good mechanical aptitude.

  • Knowledgeable with PC’s, email and MS Office applications.

  • Ability to work in a hands-on, team environment.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch and climb. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 75 pounds.

  • Valid NYS driver’s license.

  • Ability to work independently and to apply critical thinking techniques to solve problems.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects.

 

Desired qualifications:

    • HVAC repair and troubleshooting.

    • Forklift operation.

    • EPA, DOT regulations.
