Summary
Production welds metal parts with gas welding equipment as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work order by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following. Other duties may be assigned.)
Positions parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor, or clamps parts together along layout marks.
Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal.
Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders, and welding torch.
Turns regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame.
Holds torch at proper angle to metal and guides along weld joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld.
Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts.
Applies flux to workpiece instead of filler rod.
Preheats workpiece in furnace or with torch.
Lays out, positions, and tack welds workpieces.
Welds along vertical or overhead weld lines.
Scarfs or grooves weld prior to applying filler metal.
Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
Cleans or degreases parts.
Willingness to train and perform general production tasks as needed to MITSA standards. (ie deburr, flush, insert, build cores)
Perform all of the above to standardized work instructions and\or WPS’ without deviation.
Inspect all components and performed tasks for anomalies.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certified welder or successful completion of an accredited training program for welders. Ability to weld per AWS or DIN standards.
Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to read blue prints (metric).
Abilty to measurement devices such as micrometers and calipers.
Other Qualifications
Must have reliable transportation for work.
